Hanuta by Ferrero
Germany's Delicious Chocolate Hazelnut Bar
Hanuta is one of the best chocolate hazelnut snacks I’ve tried! I know that is probably a highly contested opinion, but I stand by it. On the outside are two hard, crispy wafer cookies with a good crunch. (Not the flimsy kind that melt in your mouth.) Between the wafer cookies is a layer of chocolate hazelnut filling which is much thicker than in many similar snacks. The chocolate taste is there, but the sweetness overpowers the hazelnut. If you’re looking for a rich hazelnut flavor, Hanuta will lose points in that category. But, take a bite, and you’ll feel the small pieces of hazelnut mixed in with the chocolate filling. Overally, Hanuta offers a better-than-average wafer crunch paired with a thick, yet mildly hazelnut-ty filling.
Hanuta Packaging
Inside the standard size Hanuta bar are actually two separate individually wrapped squares. Super convenient for sharing or saving half for later without worrying that it will get stale. Although, not great from a waste perspective.
Hanuta: German or Italian?
Hanuta made its debut in Germany in 1959. The name ‘Hanuta’ is a abbreviated version of haselnusstafel, literally ‘hazelnut bar’ in German! But, Hanuta is actually a product made and sold by Ferrero – the famous Italian confection company. It all started back in the 1940s, when the Piedmontese family converted their pasticceria (bakery) into a confectionary factory. Following WWII, the business grew internationally, expanding to Germany. In addition to Hanuta, the Ferrero company is the genius behind so many world-renowned snack brands including Nutella, Kinder and even Tic Tac! Until today the company is still led by members of the Ferrero family.
